Clayton Lee Cory

Clayton Lee Cory was born in Scotville, MI on September 13, 1922 to Harrison Cory and Rosella Appleton Cory. He graduated from Michigan Agricultural College with a degree in agricultural education in 1949 and later received his master's degree in education from Michigan State University. He married Jean Alice Cesna in 1949 who preceded him in death in 1960. In January 1962 he married Ruth Ellison Miner. He resided at New Haven Elder Care, in Dimondale, MI where he passed away on June 30, 2008 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. During his lifelong career in education, Clayton was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in northern Michigan. Clayton was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing trips to Canada. His many hobbies included fly-tying, wine making, creating stained glass lamps and gardening. Clayton was a "Jack of all Trades". During their active retirement, he and Ruth divided their time between Ludington, Michigan and Largo, Florida. His family and friends will remember him for his wry sense of humor and his love of a good game of pinochle or bridge. Clayton is survived by Ruth Cory, his wife of 46 years; 7 children, Susan Beshore of Lansing, MI, Kristin Husom of Ladysmith, WI, Loren (Kim) Cory of Lansing, MI, Ellen (Noel) Niemann of Milwaukee, WI, Cynthia Cory of Portland, OR, Lee (Michelle) Cory of Portland, OR and Catherine Cory of Boulder, CO; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan/Hospice, McLaren Health Services, vnsofmichigan.org. They provided excellent and loving care during his final months.
