Erv Eschels

Ervin J. Eschels, aged 85 of Ludington, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington. Erv was born on April 6, 1923, on the family farm in Free Soil along with his twin brother Arno, to Julius and Elsie (Pirsig) Eschels, and graduated from Scottville High School with the class of 1942. Erv continued to live on and work the family farm located on North US 31 Highway near Pelton Corners, until his retirement in 1977. He also hauled beans to Stokely’s in the summer for Rybicki Trucking for over 30 years until Stokely’s closed. He loved golfing with friends and could often be seen walking the course at Lakeside Links early in the morning. Erv enjoyed traveling all over the United States, and to China, Africa, Mexico, and Hawaii. He was lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Pelton Corners, and was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville when St. John’s closed, where he served as a Trustee for many years. Erv was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law Edna and Paul Hansen. He will be greatly missed by his sister Doris (Herman) Rader of Lakeview, his brother Carl (Lois) Eschels of Grand Rapids, and his twin brother Arno (Shirley) Eschels of Ludington; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.
