Gladys May Schoenherr

Mrs. Gladys M. Schoenherr, aged 84 of Reed City, formerly of Fountain, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington. Gladys was born on August 27, 1923 in Sherman Township to Alonzo and Edna (Corsaut) Wright and graduated from Custer High School. On March 8, 1941, she married Fred W. Schoenherr, and they celebrated 53 years together before Fred preceded her in death on August 23, 1994. Gladys was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Fred “Skip” Schoenherr on April 29, 1981, and her daughter Betty Johnson on March 14, 1985. Gladys worked as a seamstress for Glen Michigan Manufacturing in Manistee, before working in quality control and retiring from the Mitchell Corporation in Ludington. She loved to sew, making many of the clothes her children wore as the grew up. She could often be found working on one of her many beautiful quilts, or tending to her flowers in the garden. She and Fred enjoying many trips searching for yard sales and antiques. Gladys will be greatly missed by her daughters Judith Schoenherr of Baldwin, and Sally (Albert) Johnston of Reed City; her son Theodore (Mary) Schoenherr of Custer; her grandchildren Tina Schoenherr, Suzanne Winters, Mark, Eric, and Scott Johnson, Christopher, Mark, and James Schoenherr; 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held for Gladys at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 19 at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville. Burial will follow at Bachelor Cemetery in Fountain. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 PM until time of services at the funeral home. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
