Myrna Beemer

November 14, 1927 - July 16, 2016

Proverbs 31 describes a virtuous woman as being strong but gentle, full of wisdom and kind, faithful and trustworthy, one who cares for her family above all else and praises the Lord with all her heart. Myrna Beemer exemplified these words every day. Her life has left a legacy for her family to cherish always. Myrna Jane Taylor was born on Monday, November 14, 1927 in Lakeview, Michigan the daughter of Joseph W. and Leah (Mitchell) Taylor. She grew up on the family farm in Lakeview alongside her brothers and graduated from Lakeview High School with the class of 1945. One day while walking with some of her friends in town, they happened upon some young men who were riding through town. One of her friends was dating the driver of the vehicle and they decided to join them for a ride. As she climbed into the back seat, she was introduced to Versal Beemer. That chance encounter changed their lives forever. They married on March 21, 1946 in Lakeview and have celebrated 70 years together by each other’s side this past March. Following their honeymoon, Versal and Myrna’s first home was in Morley where they would welcome John, Larry, Mary, and Ronald into their lives. It was here where the kids were taught strong values to live by, but were always given the freedom to become their own person. Myrna maintained a garden every summer and with the help of her family would can the fruits and vegetables for meals throughout the year. On the weekends, she and Versal would join with friends and go dancing at the Grange Hall in town. Myrna loved spending time with friends and family attending many of the community events. In the summer of 1968, a new job opportunity for Versal brought the family to Scottville and they have made Mason County their home ever since. When the kids were grown, Myrna took a job with Stokely’s Cannery in Scottville, working as a Quality Control Inspector. She enjoyed this work very much and stayed for over 20 years until retirement. Myrna always stated how much she enjoyed her work there and would go back in a heartbeat. In their retirement, Versal and Myrna traveled all over including trips to England, Hawaii, and Mexico, and spent their winters in Texas for 15 years. Versal was an avid hunter and Myrna would often accompany him and the boys on hunting trips for Moose and Bear in Canada. As Versal has stated “We enjoyed Life!” Myrna’s greatest achievement was being a loving wife, caring mother, and beloved grandma, a role she truly loved. Her home was always open for her family and the wonderful smells of her cooking will be missed. She and Versal’s love for each other have left a blueprint to be followed for generations. Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: "Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all." Myrna Beemer passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Tendercare of Ludington. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Versal, her children John (Norma) Beemer of Stockbridge, Larry (Judy) Beemer of Clarkston, Mary (David) Hasenbank of Free Soil, and Ronald (Renee) Beemer of Scottville, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers. Myrna was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville where Funeral Services will be held for her at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 21 with Rev. James Schroeder and Pastor John Hansen officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Free Soil. Friends may greet her family for a time of visitation on Thursday from 12:00 noon until time of services at the church. Those who wish to remember Myrna with a memorial donation are asked to consider Our Savior Lutheran Church.
