Pearl L. Corey

April 3, 1915 - February 18, 2009

Pearl L. Corey, aged 93, formerly of Ludington and Carr Settlement, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Grand Oaks Nursing Center in Baldwin. Pearl was born on April 3, 1915 in Victory Township to Sherman and Olive (Biggie) Smith, and attended the Ludington Schools. On March 30, 1934, she married Alvan Corey in Ludington, and they celebrated 38 years together before he preceded her in death in 1972. Pearl and Alvan farmed together in Carr Settlement until 1971 when they moved into Ludington. Following Alvan’s death, Pearl continued to live in Ludington until 2001. While farming, Pearl also worked at Star Watch Case, the Ludington Daily News, and as a nurse’s aide at Oakview Medical Care Facility. She was a member of the Evergreen Church in Branch, and attended the Ludington United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star #494 in Baldwin. Pearl will be remembered for her strong spirit, her hard work ethic, and her love of her family. Her favorite memories were of the special times spent on the farm in Carr Settlement, where everyone was always welcome, and would be well fed. In addition to her husband, Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter and son-in-law Donna and Judd Copeland, her son Gordon Corey, and her grandson Judd Copeland Jr. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Ruth Corey of Dexter, her granddaughters Cindy & Mark Wentzel, Vicki and David Aeschliman, her grandsons Jeffrey & Maureen Copeland, and William D. Copeland, her great-grandsons Ben & Leah Wentzel, Chris & Alyssa Wentzel, Matt & Lyndsay Wentzel, Kyle Copeland, and Mac Copeland, her great-granddaughters Shelly & Jason Whitehead, Amanda & Todd Snyder, Lindsey & Ryan Donahue, seven great, great-grandchildren Kobe, Brooklyn, Kendra, Grant, Elle, Caleb, and Dakotah, and many loving nieces and nephews.
