Richard Floyd Ambrose

Richard Floyd Ambrose, aged 80 of Scottville, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home. Richard was born on February 11, 1929 in Allen, Michigan, the son of Leland and Rhea (Rush) Ambrose, and served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. Following his service in the Army, he worked for Consumers Power at the Pump Storage Facility in Ludington as Head Stockman, retiring in 1985 with over 30 years of service. On April 14, 1986 he married Patricia (Shira) Gieske in Zapata, Texas, where the renewed their vows in 1990. They have celebrated 23 wonderful years together. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 76 in Ludington, and attended Mass with Patricia at St. Simon’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time gardening, bird watching, hunting for morel mushrooms, and playing pool with his best friend Bob Stong. He always kept busy with something, and was very much a people person. He treasured his lighthouse collection and loved to cook for his beloved wife and family. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia’s parents, and two brothers. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia, his children Warren Leland (Dawn) Ambrose, Rhonda Kay (Steve) Darby all of Scottville, and Richard Buelow (Kimberly) Ambrose of Ludington; his stepchildren Dean Aaron (Yvette) Gieske of Sherman, Texas, Joann Marie Foley of Ludington, and Gerald Lee Gieske; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at the American Legion Post 76 in Ludington at a later date.
