September 11, 1932 - January 6, 2019
Vernis Ann Friese aged 86 of Custer passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Oakview Medical Care Facility. Vernis was born on September 11, 1932 in Benton Harbor, the youngest daughter of Henry Russell and Ila (Boss) Rynearson and graduated from Benton Harbor High School with the class of 1950. On February 17, 1951 she married Rinold W. Friese in Scottville and they celebrated 49 years together before Rinold preceded her in death in October 2000. Vernis loved spending time with her family, caring for and spoiling them as much as possible. A great cook, she always had a meal ready in case someone stopped by and looked forward to family get-togethers to play cards, and traveling with her sisters. When not cooking in her kitchen, she enjoyed being outdoors soaking in country living and all it had to offer. Her grandchildren loved their visits and helping grandma with her latest jigsaw puzzle and being spoiled. Vernis also bowled in local leagues and attended Bachelor Evangelical Covenant Church. In addition to her beloved Rinold, Vernis was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Meredith and Veryl Rynearson, and sisters Clarice Sells and Velma Kelm. Vernis will be greatly missed by her daughter Kathy Shoup and husband Richard of Custer, her son Steve Friese and wife Tina of Ludington, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren TSGT Jerry (Kelly) Shoup stationed in Florida, Janelle (Seth) Kelly of Custer, Samantha Shoup of Manistee, SrA Travis Friese stationed in Germany, Eric Friese of Ludington, Kara and Kaylie Shoup both of Custer, Nathan Shoup, Kylee and Jackson Kelly, many nieces and nephews, and her special cousin Charles Pitcher whose love and support has meant so much to her. Funeral services will be held for Vernis at 11:00 am on Friday, January 11 at Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services - Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville. Burial will take place at Bachelor Cemetery at a later date. Friends may greet her family during a time of visitation on Friday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the funeral home. Those who wish to remember Vernis with a memorial donation are asked to consider Great Lakes Caring Hospice or Oakview Medical Care Facility. The family wishes to thank the staff at Oakview Medical Care Facility for their wonderful friendship and care of Vernis over the years. You have been a great blessing.
