Linda Caquelin
In the first decade of my life I had the privilege of having my big brother around. Andy was the only sibling that I actually occupied the same household with for a time. One vivid memory I can remember was Andy sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast: a big mixing bowl, spoon, gallon of milk and a box of cereal. Yup, it was either half the box or the whole box of cereal he consumed! 😊 He was a growing boy around 11/12 years old.
Another very fond memory I have is Andy finding an injured crow, which he named Pete Schoolavich. With a tender heart and loving hands Andy nursed Pete back to health. We would sit on a old picnic table in front the house and feed Pete a delightful meal of white bread soaked in milk and pancake syrup! It was quite tasty! 😊
I also have a vague memory of Andy walking with me for the l-o-n-g walk from the house to the corner to catch the bus for school.
For the next four decades I was not in contact with Andy. I was delighted to reconnect when Cathy put out the request for any stories about Andy as they were celebrating his 50th birthday. I sent the cereal story and the Pete story. When we were invited to Andy & Cathy 25th wedding anniversary celebration in Fountain, I was stirred in my heart to reconnect with family. I danced the Polka with Andy the best we could all in fun. It was a wonderful feeling to be amongst family once again!
My husband Ron and I made frequent trips to Fountain after that, bringing our children and grandchildren at times. We will always remember tubing down the river and when we got to the bend Andy insisted: “yoddle lady hoo!“ With love, your sister Linda.
