Arthur G. Doane's Obituary
Arthur G. Doane, aged 89 of Pilgrim Manor, formerly a longtime resident of Chippewa Lake, Alto, died on Friday, October 9, 2009. Arthur was born on December 19, 1919 in Grand Rapids to Clayton G. and Elizabeth Grace (Wissman) Doane and graduated from South High School. He retired from Cutler Manufacturing where he worked as a garment cutter making baby clothes. Art was an avid reader and enjoyed target shooting with guns from his collection. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clayton “Red” Doane, and his nephew Kenneth Doane. Art will be remembered by his sister-in-law Florence Doane of Jenison; his nephews and nieces Thomas and Elise Doane of Grand Rapids, Richard and Sally Doane of Caledonia, Kirk and Barb Doane, and James and Donna Doane all of Hudsonville; Susan (Roger) Edema of Coopersville; and many great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held for Art at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, October 13 at the Chapel of Pilgrim Manor with Rev. Michael Caley of Banner of Christ Church officiating. Interment will take place at Georgetown Cemetery. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Tuesday from 12:30 until time of services at Pilgrim Manor. Those who wish may make contributions to Pilgrim Manor in memory of Arthur.
