Charles F Steigmeyer's Obituary
OBITUARY:Charles F. Steigmeyer, aged 87 of Irons, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Chuck was born in Fort Wayne, IN to Herbert and Dorothy (Reiling) Steigmeyer, and served his country during World War II as a Turret Gunner with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He, along with his father and brothers operated Steigmeyer Heating and Cooling in Grand Rapids for many years before Chuck began working for the Grand Rapids Public Schools for twenty years, retiring in 1990. In his retirement, he moved to the recreational area of Irons where he loved the outdoors, rooting on his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and enjoyed the company of many good friends.Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers the Rev. Gregory and Rev. Robert Steigmeyer, Edward, and Richard Steigmeyer, and his niece Chris Stiles. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews Catherine Steigmeyer, Joan Reedy, Judy Byrne, Marty Steigmeyer, Mary Sheppard, Jane Miller, Jim Steigmeyer, Gregg Steigmeyer, Lee Steigmeyer, and Mark Steigmeyer.The Celebration of Mass will be held on Thursday, October 18 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Irons, with Rev. Dennis O’Donnell as celebrant. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at the church. Those who wish to remember Chuck with a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Congregation of Holy Cross United States Province of Priests and Brothers, PO Box 1064, Notre Dame, IN 46556, where his brothers served.
