Donna Marie Barnett's Obituary
Donna Marie (Wicklund) Barnett, aged 84 of Scottville, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center in Ludington. Donna was born on August 27, 1923 in Scottville to Rudolph and Odessa (Shirley) Wicklund, and graduated from Scottville High School with the class of 1941. Donna was well known for her generous, easy-going nature. Anyone who ever tasted her strawberry jam, or baked goods can attest to her skill in the kitchen. She was a hard worker from the time she was a teen working at the REA, Schoenbergers Market, and later at Stokely’s Cannery. She also helped with elder care and housework. In her school years and beyond, Donna became an accomplished pianist and saxophonist. She loved music, big band in particular, with her favorite song being “Sweet Georgia Brown.” She was a lifelong member of the Scottville United Methodist Church, and enjoyed sharing her love of music as a participant of the Bell Choir. She was an avid sports fan of hockey, football, and baseball, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds while cultivating her flower garden and tending to her beautiful blooms. Donna was married for 18 years to Bernard Barnett, with whom she raised her family in Dearborn. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Phyllis Ashley. Donna will be greatly missed by her children Vincent and Sally Barnett of Branch, Shawn and Richard Davidian of East Montpelier, Vermont, and Kalvin and Kris Barnett of Free Soil; her seven grandchildren P.J. and Joseph Davidian, Daniel, Andrew, and Thomas Barnett, Gregory and Michelle Frey; her four great-grandchildren Cody, Mason, and Peyton Frey, and Leanna Barnett; her sisters Loree O’Keefe and Leona (Tom) Corlett all of Ludington, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Donna at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 19 at the Scottville United Methodist Church, with her pastor, the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM until time of services at the church. Those who wish may make contributions to her family.
