Doris R. Obel's Obituary
Doris Rae Obel, aged 84 of Ludington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2014 with her beloved husband Floyd, by her side.
Doris was born on September 10, 1930 in Elberta, Michigan, the daughter of Glen and Rae (Fitzhugh) Ferris, and graduated from Ludington High School with the class of 1948. On the day after her 18th birthday, September 11, 1948, she married Floyd Obel in a ceremony officiated by Rev. John Christensen, and they have celebrated 66 years by each other’s side. After raising their 3 children, Doris began working for the Traverse Bay Woolen Company in Ludington, and retired as the manager after 20 years of service. She loved to spend time fishing with her family and visiting the casino every Wednesday for Seniors Day.
Doris will be greatly missed by her husband Floyd, her 3 children Edward (Denise) Obel of Texas, Kathy (Clair) Reed of Tennessee, and Diana (Curt) Potter of Ludington, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her sisters Nancy (Bob) Coats of Brethren, and LeAnn Adams of Florida, her brother Ronald (Dorothy) Ferris of Grand Rapids, and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Glen “Joe” Ferris.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Doris in the summer 2015. No services or visitation are scheduled at this time. Doris will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington later this fall.
