Dorothy Roberta McCumber's Obituary
OBITUARY:Dorothy R. McCumber, aged 87 of Fountain passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 after an extended illness. Dorothy was born on May 6, 1923 in Flint to Henry and Mabel (Ransford) Altman. She became the bride of Ralph E. McCumber on February 22, 1941 in Flint, and spent the next 69 years as his devoted wife and loving companion. Together they raised their three children Ralph Jr., Barbara, and Diane. They lived in Bradenton, Florida until Ralph’s retirement and returned to Michigan. Dorothy was always a homemaker devoted to her family. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother, filling her home with the wonderful smells of her cooking, and caring for her family. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her son Ralph, her daughter Barbara Sheppard, and her two brothers-in-law Robert and Glen McCumber.She will be greatly missed by her husband Ralph; her daughter Diane Hader and her husband Gary of North Carolina; Ralph Jr.’s family which includes his children Daniel, Chris, and Joey McCumber; the McCumber-Bonnett family of Fountain which includes her daughter-in-law Dee McCumber and Pete Bonnett and their children Meghan and Lauren McCumber, Jennifer, Josh, and Melanie Bonnett; Barbara’s family which includes her children Pam (Russell) Bentley, Michael (Ginger) Yrabedra, Marsha (Tommy) Morris, Barbara’s husband Mark Sheppard of Ackworth, Georgia and his son Mark; her brothers Howard Altman of Gaylord, and Jimmy Altman; her sisters-in-law Marguerite, Helen, Bertha May, and Phyllis; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held for Dorothy at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 20 at the Bachelor Evangelical Covenant Church with Rev. Norm Letsinger, and Pastor Leo Anderson officiating. Burial will take place at the McCumber Cemetery in Branch. Friends may meet with Dorothy’s family for a time of visitation on Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of services at the church. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Bachelor Evangelical Covenant Church or Hospice of Michigan – Mason County.
