Eleanor J. Posma's Obituary
ELLIE'S OBITUARY:Eleanor J. “Ellie” Posma, aged 92 of Ludington, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Ellie was born on June 1, 1919 in Zeeland, the daughter of John and Marie (DeBruyn) Bowens, and married Ivan “Bud” Posma on September 30, 1937 in Zeeland. Bud and Ellie celebrated 66 blessed years together before Bud preceded her in death on July 2, 2004. Bud and Ellie lived many years on the Pere Marquette River at Ruby Creek, before moving to Maple Island, serving as hosts and caretakers of the Quality Farm and Fleet Training Center. Upon their retirement, they returned to Mason County where they enjoyed "RV ing” for many years between Michigan, Florida, and Gulf Shores, Alabama. They were one of the founding couples of the Mason County Reformed Church in Scottville, where Ellie was still a member. When they lived at Ruby Creek, Ellie loved being outdoors, snowmobiling, hunting, and enjoying many other outdoor activities. Her last eight years have been spent in the company of her Oakview Medical Care Facility Family, where she liked to work on arts and crafts, and rarely missed an opportunity to play bingo. Her legacy as the family historian was eloquently captured in her writings of her little black book, which recorded milestones, birthdays, and daily adventures. Along with her husband, Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, her former daughter-in-law Gloria Posma, and her sister Genevieve Lundin. Ellie will be greatly missed by her sons Lee (Judy) Posma of Zeeland, and Tom (Karen) Posma of Walhalla, her grandchildren Pam (Steve) Kalkman, Nancy (Wade) Slagh, Dan (Robin) Posma, John (Kim) Posma, Tom (Marcie) Posma, Michelle Posma (friend Larry Wheeler), and Melissa Kirchner, 13 great-grandchildren, 13 great, great-grandchildren, her sisters Dorothy (Jerome) Walters, and Elaine Wells, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ellie will be held at Noon on Saturday, December 3 at the Mason County Reformed Church, 45 S. Amber Rd, Scottville, with her pastor, the Rev. Rick VanHaitsma officiating. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Saturday from 11:00 am until time of services at the church. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Building Fund of Mason County Reformed Church.
