VANDERSTAR:Elwin William Vanderstar, aged 96 of Fountain, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. Elwin was born on July 26, 1913 in Fibre, Michigan to Gerald Emerson and Effie (James) Vanderstar, and graduated from Rudyard High School. On November 7, 1942 he married Virginia Lenon in Sault Ste. Marie, and they have celebrated 67 years together. Elwin worked many years for the Department of Natural Resources as a foreman at Camp Sauble in Free Soil, retiring in 1976. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and working in his wood shop, making window boxes and furniture for their home. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers James and Charles Vanderstar. Elwin will be lovingly remembered by his wife Virginia; his children Carol (Roy) Grove of Paw Paw, Gerald (Lisa) Vanderstar of Scottville, Robert Vanderstar of Fountain, and Beverly (Randy) Christensen of Geneva, Florida; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law Doris Beaune, Evelyn Simpson, and Joyce House all of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held for Elwin at the Brookside Cemetery in Scottville in the spring.
