Frances Ann Schroeder's Obituary
OBITUARY:Frances Kopecki Schroeder, aged 88 of Ludington, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Frances was born on December 3, 1922 in Pere Marquette Township to Alex John and Mary Maggie (Shuple) Layman. On November 29, 1941 she married Edmund Kopecki at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer, and they celebrated 33 years together before Edmund preceded her in death on September 15, 1975. She later married Douglas Schroeder on January 12, 1980 in Ludington, and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1998. Frances worked various jobs in Detroit, mostly for Kroger stores, before their family moved to Ludington in 1968, and she worked several years as a waitress at the Airport Café. She loved being outdoors as often as possible, and enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, working in her yard on the lawn or tending her flowers, and traveling with her family. In addition to her husbands, Frances was preceded in death by her daughters Patricia Britt, and Veronica DeKeyser, her son-in-laws Roger Britt, and Roger Marek, and her brothers Walt, Zygmont, and Martin Layman. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Richard E. (MaryAnn) Kopecki of Cleveland, Georgia, her daughter MaryAnn Marek of Scottville, her grandchildren Ken Britt, Brian (Candy) Marek, Christine (David) Hallin, and Richard Dillon Kopecki, her great-grandchildren Joseph and Tyler Marek, Skylar and Mason Hallin, her brothers Alex Layman of Grand Rapids, and Louis (Nell) Layman of Oregon, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held for Frances at 11:00 am on Monday, July 11 at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville, with Rev. Norm Letsinger officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Custer. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 pm, and on Monday morning from 10:00 am until time of services at the funeral home. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the West Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross, or the Salvation Army – Mason County.
