Harold Ray Oberlin's Obituary
Mr. Harold Ray Oberlin, aged 84 of Fountain, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center of West Michigan in Ludington. Harold was born on July 24, 1923 in Belding to Kenneth and Ethel (Roadhouse) Oberlin, and served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. On November 13, 1942, Harold married Lillian Sochor in Ionia, and she preceded him in death in 1969. He then married Berdeane Geiger on August 15, 1970 in Muskegon, and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2002. Following his discharge from the Army, Harold worked 30 years for the Campbell, Wyant, and Cannon Foundry in Muskegon, retiring in 1979. He and Berdeane moved from Muskegon to the Blue Lake area of Fountain in the mid-1970’s, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. In addition to his wives, Harold was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Richard. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Linda and Ronald Moran of Muskegon, Kim and Wendy Oberlin of Fountain, Kenneth and Kerry Oberlin of Crossville, Tennessee, and Rhonda Malotke of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place at the Western Michigan Crematory in Muskegon. His family will host a gathering with friends at Harold’s residence on Blue Lake later this week. Burial of his remains will take place at Mona View Cemetery in Muskegon in the spring. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
