Jack DuWayne Weerstra's Obituary
Mr. Jack D. Weerstra, age 74, of Branch, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009 due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Jack was born August 18, 1934 to Engbert and Ottolene (Love) Weerstra in Muskegon. After Jack’s father died, his mother wed Woodrow Griswold. Jack graduated from North Muskegon High School and served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. On May 27, 1954 he married Bette Balkema and they celebrated 54 years of marriage.In 1996 Jack retired from Mark Pack, Inc. of Muskegon and for the last 13 years, he and Bette spent their winters at their home in Haines City, Florida, while spending their summers in Branch. During their Michigan summers they attended Mason County Reformed Church. Jack loved the outdoors and truly enjoyed the game of golf, as well as hunting and fishing, as long as his health would allow. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepfather, his son Michael, and his father- and mother-in-law Elmer & Hazel Balkema.He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bette, his son David (Tammie) Weerstra of Allendale, his sister Susan Reed of Texas, his brother Robert (Nancy) Weerstra of Muskegon, his brothers- and sisters-in-law Roger (Jackie) Balkema and Allan (Carol) Balkema all of Muskegon, his step grandchildren Ryan, Amber, Amanda, and Steven Buehlman of Allendale, as well as several nieces and nephews.In accordance with Jack’s wishes, there will be no services.
