Kenneth J. Slager's Obituary
Kenneth “Kenn or Kenny” Jay Slager age 62 of Ruby Creek area of Branch, formerly of Holland, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family due to a rare form on interstitial lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Kenn was born on December 21, 1959 in Holland, the son of Gordon Jay and Vivian May (VanSlooten) Slager and grew up in the Holland area. He worked 38 years at Herman Miller where he met many special people. It was at Herman Miller where he met his wife Kimberly Sue Post and they have celebrated 28 years together. Kenn fought a hard fight to make sure and make the 28th one. Together they raised their family in the Hamilton area and enjoyed many years of 4-H activities with the Allegan County 4-H program, especially the kid’s swine projects. All their hard work, the fun, and growing through it all was very special to him as family was an important part of his values.
Kenn loved all – he enjoyed helping friends and family with projects, so much that he would set aside his own projects to help others, continuing as long as he was able. He was challenged with technology, much preferring the old school way of communication where you would reach out to someone to talk to them. He did like surfing the internet but never liked social media. Kenn was very grateful for every act of support shown to him and his family in these hard times. As nothing was too small, Kenn was very comforted with the promises people made to care for his family as they face a long, hard road ahead. He wanted everyone to know “God is Good.” He took great pride in sharing how he felt the love of God, God’s forgiveness in his life, and that it is never too late for anyone. Remember to read the Bible for it is the best.
Kenn will be greatly missed by the love of his life Kimberly Sue Slager; his son Jerry Slager, his daughter Julia Slager, and stepdaughter Ashely (Tim) Postma; his granddaughter Lylah Postma; his father and mother-in-law Gerald and Lila Post; his brothers and sisters-in-law Sue Brand, Lorie (Craig) Horton, Linda Moore, Sandra (Ken) Hodgson, Timothy (Lisa) Slager, Nancy (Scott) Durfee, Carla Post, Kristina (Russ) Nichols, Connie (Keith) Klein; along with many nieces and nephews. Kenn was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Vivian, and his brother Stephen Slager.
A Celebration of Kenn’s life will be held later this spring. Please read Kenn’s story of his last months at CaringBridge.org/visit/kennslager where you will also find updates regarding service day and time. Kenn’s family would like to give special thanks to Harbor Hospice for all the care and assistance they have provided during this time. To help others, Kenn chose to donate his body to Michigan State University for research.
