I just today found out about Kirt's passing. I had been a good friend of his and now that I live in Petoskey, I would stop to see him whenever I came to Ludington to visit my kids. The last few times I stopped there was no one home so I thought he was spending the winter with his daughter in Marquette. So, tonight I thought I would call him. I then found his obituary on line.
I met Kirt when we were both adjunct instructors at West Shore Community College. I also had a small business collecting lampreys for researchers. He would go along and help me collect. He loved our trips together and wading streams and collecting lampreys and catching and observing all kinds of fish and aquatic life. I would offer him money but he would refuse and said it wouldn't be fair because he was enjoying it so much. I did get a chance to drop off a good bottle of Scotch a couple times when he wasn't looking. We would have some good conversations while driving to a river to collect lampreys.
He was an interesting and intelligent man who enjoyed life. I enjoyed his company and will remember him forever.
