Lenora Ellen Hissong's Obituary
OBITUARY:Lenora Ellen Hissong, aged 86 of Jenison formerly a lifelong resident of Custer, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming. Lenora was born on January 9, 1926 in Custer Township to William Henry and Emma (Slagle) Bacon, and graduated from Custer High School with the class of 1943. On January 5, 1946, she married Glenn W. Hissong in Scottville, and they celebrated 48 years together before Glenn preceded her in death on April 5, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Eugene and Merwin Bacon, and her sister Clara Hissong. Lenora and Glenn raised their five children south of Custer, where her love of being a mom shone brightly. They were longtime members of Harbor Light Fellowship Church in Ludington, and Lenora enjoyed swimming year round at her home in Custer and in Florida. She would often be seen walking in her neighborhood or engaging her friends in a game of shuffleboard while in Florida. She also loved to read, knit, crochet, and doing word search puzzles.Lenora will be greatly missed by her children Jeanne (Michael) Host of Rockford, IL, David (Charlotte) Hissong of Bluffton, IN, Roger (Lynn) Hissong of Saginaw, Debra Hissong of Wyoming, and Carol (Bruce) Garn of Boyne City, 7 beloved grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and her sister Virginia Dodson of Ludington, along with many nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held for Lenora at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 19 at the Harbor Light Fellowship Church in Ludington. Internment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Custer. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Saturday from 1:00 PM until time of services at the church. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Harbor Light Fellowship Church.
