Licia Olga Hughes' Obituary
Licia Olga Hughes, aged 87 of Scottville, died on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Tendercare of Ludington. Licia was born in Rome, Italy on June 5, 1921, the daughter of Umberto and Vittorina (Marconi) Trisciani. She studied accounting at Liceo University in Rome until the university closed during World War II. During the war, she bravely assisted in the escape of prisoners of war from the German occupied forces in Rome. On October 10, 1945 she married David W. Hughes in Rome, and they moved to the United States in 1946, and settled on a farm in Fountain. Her heart always remained for her beloved Italy. Licia worked at Howell Wire for 20 years, and later in the kitchen for Gibbs Family Restaurant and at the Holiday Inn . Licia had a strong, feisty personality, and was well known for her beautiful paintings. She was preceded in death her husband David on April 12, 1997, and moved to the Thornwild Apartments in Scottville following his death. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons David H. and Cheryl Hughes of Charlotte, John W. Hughes of Oregon, and Charles E. Hughes of Custer; her daughter Joan L. Mountenay of Florida, six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
