Mary Hall Bittel's Obituary
OBITUARY:Mary Hall Bittel, aged 79 of Scottville passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Mary was born on September 8, 1930 in Owosso to Paul and Anna (Solzanski) Kasich and graduated from Detroit Warren High School with the Class of 1948. On May 10, 1958, she married Dwight Hall and they celebrated 16 years together before Dwight preceded her in death in 1974. Mary and Dwight raised their children Gina and Wayne together on their farm north of Scottville, and were very active members of the Ludington Free Methodist Church. Mary served as music director for the church for several years and led a singing group of young members called the “Proclaimers” who sang locally and around the country. The group recently held a reunion in Mary’s honor. Known as “Mom Hall” to many, Mary was always willing to open her home and reach out to anyone in need. Besides her love of gospel music, Mary enjoyed working on their farm and gardening, but most cherished being her children’s mom. She later married Norman Bittel on November 3, 1983, and he preceded her in death in 1989. Recently, she has been a member of the Scottville Church of Christ. Along with her husband’s Dwight and Norman, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Vera Kasich, her brothers Al, Walter, and Joe Kasich, and her sisters Del Michaels and Bessie Zarkovich. Mary will be greatly missed by her daughter Gina (Gary) Lauffer and their daughters Katie and Molly all of New Buffalo; her son Wayne Hall of Scottville, and his children Dwight, Leslie, and Chad Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held for Mary at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 29 at Riverside Cemetery in Custer. Her family will be available to meet with friends from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the cemetery. Those who wish to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Salvation Army, or Hospice of Michigan - Mason County.
