Otto William Wendt III's Obituary
Otto William Wendt III age 83 of Fountain passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Otto was born on June 4, 1942 in Frankfort, the son of Otto W. and Audrey E. (Showalter) Wendt II, and grew up in Onekama where he attended Onekama Public Schools. He served his country as a Radioman with the United States Navy aboard the USS Oxford. Upon his discharge from service, Otto returned home and was introduced to a beautiful young lady named Rogene Kosiboski. They were united in marriage on August 10, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Onekama. They have celebrated over 57 wonderful years together.
Otto worked as a Pipefitter for Hardy Salt in Manistee. During his retirement, Otto was able to enjoy his love of being outdoors, kayaking on the lake, teaching his grandkids and great-grandkids the enjoyment of fishing and hunting. Otto had a quiet, gentle spirit, was always a gentleman, and loved his family deeply. The life lessons he shared will forever be with them.
Otto will be greatly missed by his wife Rogene; his daughter Sara (Steve) Wallager of Custer; his son Otto (April) Wendt IV of Palmer, Alaska; his grandchildren Sean (Kali) Gilbert of Shelby, Noel (Erik) Shafer of Scottville, Breanna Wendt (Josh Robinson) of Free Soil, Ashleigh Wendt Zubiate, McKenzie Clark and Corey Clark of Alaska; 8 great-grandchildren with one more to arrive soon; his brothers Arthur (Bea) Wendt of Manistee, and Robert (Karen) Wendt of Onekama; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his good friend Jim Wabsis.
Otto was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Ruby Lampi and Mary Alice Brzeski.
A ceremony to celebrate Otto’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 31 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Scottville, with Rev. Kenneth Williamson and Pastor Pete Engblade officiating. Friends may meet with Otto’s family from 12:00 noon until time of services at the church.
