Ray Simpson's Obituary
OBITUARY:Ray Simpson, aged 80 of Branch, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Ray was born on July 20, 1930 in Harlan, Kentucky to Bill and Cleo (Harris) Simpson, and served his country with the United States Marine Corps following World War II. On July 15, 1950, he married Ollie Stallard in Detroit, and they celebrated 47 blessed years together before Ollie preceded him in death on October 11, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son Dennis on May 30, 1995, his brother Brad, and his sisters Bessie Farley and Letha Simpson. Ray was a retiree of General Motors where he worked 33 years at the Livonia Spring & Bumper plant. Following his move to Branch, he worked for Stokely’s USA and at Wal-Mart. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying both hobbies yet this fall. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, managing Little League baseball teams for several years, and was a faithful fan of the Detroit Lions. As a proud Marine, he was a skilled sharpshooter and could still hit the bull’s-eye of a target at the age of 80. Ray will be greatly missed by his children Nathan Simpson, Myrtle “Mert” & Albert Taylor, Tina Revolt and her fiancé James Grosswiler all of Branch; his daughter-in-law Sandy Simpson of Lewisburg, Tennessee; his grandchildren Dennis (Terry) Simpson Jr., Michael (Paige) Simpson, Stacey Good, Tracy Simpson, James Taylor II, Michael Taylor (fiancée Cristle Cole), and Harry Revolt II; his great-grandchildren Marissa, Tristan, Carrie, Kaitlyn, Laexis, Tyler, Morgan, Daniel, Blake, Bailey, Dakota, Gavin, and Emma; and his brothers Willard (Shirley) Simpson of Ohio, and Clyde (Barbara) Simpson of Florida. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 3 at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville, with Pastor Leo Anderson of Bachelor Evangelical Covenant Church officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Sweetwater Cemetery. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Thursday from 5 – 9 PM, and on Friday from 12 noon until time of services at the funeral home. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the American Cancer Society in honor of his son Dennis.
