Robert Lee Zay's Obituary
OBITUARY:Robert Lee Zay, aged 74 of Scottville died at home on Saturday, January 29, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born November 26, 1936 in Ottawa, Ohio to Adam and Erma (Ambreck) Zay, and served his country with the United States Army Rangers. On August 21, 1999, he married Janice (Dwyer) at Riverside Park in Scottville, and they have celebrated 12 years together. Robert was preceded in death by his father Adam during World War II, his mother Erma Stock, and his son Joel Gum. Robert most recently worked at the Scottville Senior Center, following his employment at Straits Steel & Wire, Dow Chemical, and as a Truck Driver for several years. He often played his guitar and sang with Cats and Jammers at the Custer Gold Bar VFW Post 5096. Robert was an avid fisherman, enjoyed a good game of pool with friends, and liked to draw, but mostly loved being with his grandchildren. He leaves behind his loving wife Janice; his children Ryanna Zay, James and Sheila Gum, Timothy and April Gum, Julie Rasmussen, Shawn and Tracy Fitzgerald, Thomas and Juanita Gum; 24 grandchildren; his sister Patricia Hall; and his brother Joe Stock. A Memorial Service will be held for Robert at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 10 at the Custer Gold Bar VFW Post 5096, where his family will be available to greet friends from 2:00 PM until time of services at the Post. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider donations to Janice Zay, c/o the Custer Gold Bar VFW Post 5096.
