Rolland David Miller's Obituary
OBITUARY:Rolland D. Miller, aged 88 of Custer passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Tendercare of Ludington. Rolland was born on April 9, 1922 in Custer Township, the son of Clarence and Thelma (Fager) Miller, and grew up in the Scottville area. He served his country with the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, earning the Victory Medal, 3 Stars Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. On September 7, 1946 he married Dorothy Sommerfeldt in Sherman Township, and they celebrated 52 years together before Dorothy preceded him in death on August 20, 1999. Rolland was a lifelong member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scottville, worked as an Operating Engineer and was a proud member of the Local 324 of Michigan for 68 years. Along with his wife Dorothy, Rolland was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Irene Hanson and June Chilberg. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Preston D. (Kathy) Miller of Prescott, Arizona, and Martin W. Miller of Coloma; five grandchildren Matthew (Niki) Miller, Derek Miller, Debra Miller, Michael (Brandy) Tucker, and Dale Gilbert; six great-grandchildren Madison Miller, Cheyann Witherspoon, Matthew James Witherspoon, Lisa Tucker, Joel Flores, and Kim Flores; his sister Iola Rosenow; and several nieces and nephews. Preston and Kathy Miller and their Family would also like to recognize that their departed Father and grandfather is survived by Jeri Larr his devoted companion of 10 years. Funeral services will be held for Rolland at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 20 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with his pastor, the Rev. Mark Rosenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Custer. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Monday evening from 7-9 PM at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville. Those who wish to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association.
