Shirley Ann Wayward's Obituary
Shirley Ann Wayward, aged 79 of Irons, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. Shirley was born on October 23, 1934 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Bruno and Mildred (Jones) Jurewicz, and graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School. She married Charles Wayward on July 3, 1954 in Irons, and they celebrated 45 years together before Charles preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter Theresa, and her brothers George (Fran) and Gerald Jurewicz.
Shirley was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Irons, loved to sing in the choir, and was an active member of the Altar Society for many years. She enjoyed crafting and was a very talented painter. In her quiet time, she was an avid reader and dearly loved being in the company of her family.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her children Cathy (Thomas) Miltgen, Charles (Vicky) Wayward, Michael Wayward, George Wayward, James (Robin) Wayward, and Fred (Kathleen) Wayward all of Irons, and David Wayward of Oregon, her 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild soon to arrive, her sister-in-law Janet Jurewicz of Pierson, and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 29 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Irons with Rev. Dennis O’Donnell as celebrant. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery in Irons. Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Monday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the church, where the Rosary will be prayed for Shirley at 8:00 PM. Those who wish to make contributions are asked to consider the St. Bernard Altar Society or to her family.
