Stanley Barauskas' Obituary
Stanley Paul Barauskas aged 92 of Ludington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Oakview Medical Care Facility. Stanley was born on May 8, 1923 in Chicago, the son of Kazimieras and Julijona (Bachulis) Barauskas and moved to Ludington as a child with his family to establish a farm in Riverton Township. Stanley graduated from St. Simons High School in 1941 and farmed in Riverton Township for over 80 years, successfully transitioning from general farming to fruit farming with a large and varied crop specializing in apples. His cider operation was a well-known specialty.
Stanley was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer, where he sang in the choir. He served many years on the board of the Ludington Fruit Exchange.
Stanley will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sandra (Guy) Borrusch, his granddaughter Crystl Patterson, his stepchildren Margaret (Charles) Hayes, and Jeanne Kagey all of Ludington, Emil (Florence) Sjoholm of Wappinger Falls, New York, nine step grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Michigan and the Chicago area.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Anne Sjoholm Barauskas, his grandson Eric Hart, his sisters Julia Haddad, and Helen Stockis, and his brothers Charles Barowski and John Barauskas.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Stanley at 11:00 am on Friday, May 6th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with Rev. Daniel DePew as celebrant. Burial will take place at Pere Marquette Cemetery in Ludington. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Friday morning from 10:00 am until time of Mass at the church. Those who wish to remember Stanley with a memorial contribution are asked to consider St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Harbor Hospice.
